A section of West Potomac Park, near the &lt;a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/27"&gt;Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial&lt;/a&gt;, has been used as a &lt;a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/325"&gt;polo ground&lt;/a&gt; since the early 1900s. In addition to the golf course which is still open today in East Potomac Park, in the 1930s there was a golf course just south of the present site of the &lt;a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/62"&gt;Korean War Memorial&lt;/a&gt;. There was a whites-only &lt;a href="http://mallhistory.org/items/show/173"&gt;swimming pool near the Washington Monument &lt;/a&gt;during the 1930s and 40s.</text>
